Aura's 2026 Goals
Posted 09 January 2026(NB: I wrote this before the end of the year. I just got lazy about posting it. Whoops!)
Man, what a year, huh? It's...not been a great one, huh? Just generally pretty shit, huh?
I mean, in the world, you've got everything happening in the US right now. Republicans are trying to ruin everything and the Democrats are doing little to stop them. Like, what's the point in voting for you next year if you're not gonna do anything now? Of course, that's assuming we even have free and fair elections next year, much less 3 years from now. Speaking of shit politics, there's also the UK. Man, how underwhelming Labour's been, huh? Seems they beat the Tories and immediately went "Hmm, how do we make sure the 2024 election gets completely undone next time we have an election?" Yikes.
Sports hasn't been much better. The Mavs traded Luka to the Lakers. If you know anything about basketball, you probably also went "What the fuck?!" the moment you heard that news. Granted, that's a tentative negative. We'll see how that works out in the long run. So far, it hasn't exactly been great for the Lakers, but it also hasn't been great for the Mavs, so there's that. You know what isn't a tentative negative, though? The Blue Jays losing the World Series. "Emblematic of everything wrong with the world" might be a bit of an exaggeration, but, to be fair, I thought about writing a blog post defending that notion. Still sucks. The team with more money won. *Sigh* Remember 2023, when it was two teams no one expected playing in the World Series? Remember how cool that was? Alas.
It's also not been a great year personally. Back in January, I had to drive my mom to surgery. It was nothing major, just a surgical biopsy to make sure something wasn't breast cancer, but it still sucks. (Anyways, if my mom knew about this post, I'm sure she'd want me to tell you that screening works and to go get your mammograms and colonoscopies and whatnot if you need them. After all, that whole journey only started because of a routine mammogram.) In worse news, in early June, my uncle died to a drunk driver. I was never particularly close with him, but it's still sad. Remember: don't fucking drink and drive. And, literally just a couple of days ago, we had to put my childhood dog down. We'd had her for 14 years, literally since I was in middle school. That was rough. Rest in peace, Shadow.
And, well, then there's myself. I nearly tried to kill myself back in May. And, just, in general, the middle of this year fucking sucked mentally. Remember last year when I mentioned I was going off the Effexor? Yeah, that fucking sucked. Turns out, I really needed that medication. So, being off it through the middle of this year really fucked me up something fierce. Lesson learned.
Not that good things didn't happen this year. I FC'd POP/STARS on expert in Beat Saber. That was cool. I played Castlevania for the first time, and, though I haven't beaten it yet, I managed to make it to stage 5 without dying first try and beat Medusa without a subweapon on my first try. That was cool. Mom and I went to Six Flags back in July. It was expensive, we barely rode anything, both of us learned we can't really do roller coasters, but we had fun nonetheless. Oh, and, of course, the big one, I finally started back to school! And I did well! This has (along with going back on Effexor) really been a boon for my mental health. I'm finally back in that saddle, baybee! Anyways, let's talk about the year and my goals from last year, shall we?
2025 Accountability
Well, I'm still alive. Like I said, nearly tried to kill myself, and I had a low point through the middle of the year, but we've figured that out and I've recovered well. That, and I've managed to avoid getting into any flaming wrecks going to and from therapy, since that's an hour or so drive.
I said I wanted to get a job, and I still do, but, well, I was depressed though the first half of the year and focusing on school through the latter half. I do have some plans in that regard we'll talk about later, but, no, I don't currently have a job.
I never did call my PCP. To be fair, I have no clue if she was even on my insurance. They told me she wasn't going to be anymore, but they never assigned me a new PCP??? Anyways, my insurance is changing next year, so I'll have to find a new one anyways. In other medical topics, I've given up on the dental issues. I dropped the dental insurance because that was pure sunk cost. I probably should have at least gone in for, like, routine cleaning and whatnot, but meh. I did manage to go off the Effexor completely, but, like we discussed, that went poorly. I ended up putting myself back on it and, wouldn't you know, the depression went away. I'm actually looking into testing to distinguish whether I'm actually bipolar or if it is just major depressive disorder, because, surely, if it were actually bipolar, the Effexor shouldn't be that important, right? If I were actually bipolar, why was I able to be off the lithium no problem but going off the Effexor did that? Anyways, that's something for next year. Incidentally, I figured out that weird urological issue. Turns out, it was a side effect of the Effexor. Not sure how to fix it (or if it can be fixed), but I need to remember to bring it up with my psychiatrist.
I'm back in school! UTA released my fucking transcripts and I've filled out the form to get that moved over, so I'm able to go back no problems and no needing to retake any classes! Speaking of which, I've been taking classes. A&P I, Microbiology, Philosophy, and Developmental Psychology. I made three A's and a B, and frankly, I could have managed four A's if I'd actually done the movie analysis paper for dev psych. Anyways, classes are going well. Had some issues with financial aid at the start of the semester, but that's been worked out and I've received everything just fine. Speaking of which, no issues with defaulting on student loans because I'm now "in-school" again, so they're back on deferment! Woo! Anyways, on a final note, I'm not making this decision until after I get my BSN, but I'm thinking about going to medical school and becoming a doctor instead of getting my DNP. We'll see, we'll see…
Habits were a mixed bag. I had gotten into a habit of brushing my teeth before bed, but have unfortunately fallen out of that habit. I still need to get back to regularly showering and washing clothes. (I mean, honestly, I'm not sure when the last time I washed clothes was. It was early in the semester if not before it started. Oof.) I did start walking regularly. A mile or two on a bad day, three or four on a good one. But, because I walked at night, and I was taking night classes this semester, I fell out of that. Shame.
I'm back on Arch Linux, so I have my FENIX toolchain back, not that I'm using it. I never did decide what to do with Kitsune Fight. I did draw some stuff, though nothing with Erin or Robin. Instead, we've got yet another new OC, because apparently you can never have enough of those. I did try to clean up a couple of blog posts, and even posted a couple, but that was all early this year. Things did get kinda rough, because starting around July, I stopped wanting to do anything. It's been kinda rough.
Unfortunately, this also has affected my streaming. I haven't done any streaming this year. Erin's been on a really extended hiatus. But, hey, I made a Lilix PNGTuber for use on Picarto, not that I've used it.
Goals
Stay alive
I came close to trying to kill myself back in May. I think it's because I was off the Effexor, but still. I would like to stay alive. If you're reading this, I obviously stayed alive this last year, but, you know, good goal to stay alive this year too. Especially because I should have some exciting things coming this fall...
Start the nursing program
I'll hopefully start the nursing program at my local college! That's right! Finally gonna be working on my ADN! Of course, to get there, there are still a few things I need to do. I need to take the HESI. Unfortunately, I won't be able to do that until the end of January when the testing center reopens. It shouldn't be too hard to get a good score on, though I do only really get one try. Once I've done that, I need to actually apply to the nursing program. Based on their selection criteria, I shouldn't have much trouble getting in.
Then, all that remains is getting ready and getting through my first semester! I've already started ordering stuff I'll need. You know, scrubs, stethoscope, all that jazz. Hopefully, I haven't jinxed myself by doing so. But, I've got money left over from grants and such, so I might as well go ahead and spend it.
Get some more work experience (and money!)
I currently only have 6 months of work experience, which, for someone in their late 20's, isn't great. I will be taking classes next semester, so I'll need to work around that, but I will be trying to get a job anyways. I plan to find something PRN where I can choose what shifts I actually take. It'll at least give me something to put on my CV. It'll also give me some extra money to spend on nice things, like maybe a new monitor or two… Anyways, incidentally…
Continue to do well in classes
Obviously, once I start the nursing program, I want to do well in those classes. I also want to do well in the classes I'm taking next semester. I'll be taking A&P II, Intro to Sociology, "Speech", and General Biology I.
Of those, A&P II is the one I'm most worried about. While I did well on the lecture exams for A&P I, I struggled with the lab exams, which were more about knowing anatomy, the structures themselves, than the physiology, the function of those structures. Put it this way, my lowest lecture exam grade was a 94. My lowest lab exam grade was a 43. That's a big difference. And even my highest lab exam was only an 81. So, yeah. A&P II will probably be the trickiest class.
Otherwise, it shouldn't be too hard to get A's in everything else assuming there aren't any papers I skip. I mean, hell, when I took bio for non-majors at UTA, I made an A and I only made it halfway through the textbook. So, actually trying this time, bio I shouldn't be too hard. Sociology shouldn't be much harder than dev psych. And, well, speech is one of those basic freshman level classes that you kinda just have to have. It is what it is.
Medical issues, take 6
Despite my psychiatrist continuing to yell at me about doing it, I still haven't seen a PCP yet. Unfortunately, my insurance is changing next year, so I'll have to figure out who is covered by that. Thankfully, my insurance costs haven't gone up that much, despite the fecklessness of the Democrats, so I'll at least have insurance. (I mean, okay, it's gone up by a factor of 5, but I was only paying $11 a month, so, in the grand scheme, I can live with $55/month. Ugh.)
A lot of the stuff I talked about needing to take care of this year still applies. I still need to talk about migraines. I still need to double check my thyroid. I still need to talk about those heart issues. And I'd still like to get checked for PCN allergy. I'd also like to talk to my doctor about maybe getting vaccinated for HPV. It wasn't recommended for "boys" when I was at the age it's now recommended, and I never bothered to ask about it later. Technically, I'm out of the age bracket for unconditional recommendation. After 26, it's recommended based on individual risk factors. But, it's probably not a bad idea, right?
Unfortunately, the teeth will have to wait. Annoying as it is, I'm not gonna try to get dental insurance again until I have a job as a nurse. By that time, I'll definitely have the money to get all that taken care of and probably even get some implants to replace my missing teeth! But, that's a goal for, like, 2028 or 2029. Let's just focus on the now.
Habits, take 4
Yeah. I need to get back to brushing my teeth again. I need to get back to showering and washing clothes regularly. (Hopefully, being in the nursing program and/or getting a job will make those easier.)
I also need an exercise regimen of more than just walking. Walking is nice, but I really desperately need something for my upper body, because damn are my arms weak, and, like, core muscles are important for being able to do CPR well. I have an exercise regimen on my wall, but I never actually follow it. Maybe I should. I did buy a couple of 5 lb. dumbbells to keep at my desk that I can idly lift while watching Twitch or YouTube or whatever. Surely, doing that over the course of a couple months will give me at least some arm muscles, right?
Lose some weight
I've actually been trying to do this over the past year and managed to lose around 20 pounds. I'm back down in the 190's from the 210's. I'm trying to get back down into the 150's. I think that should in theory be possible over the next year. That 20 pounds was only over the course of four or five months. But, then, that was four or five months where I was walking on a consistent basis. I stopped losing weight when I started classes and, well, as I said, stopped walking. Anyways, I bought a punching bag, which, like, one, bag work is just fun, and two, it's more intense exercise than walking. Theoretically, 40 minutes or so 3 days a week should put me back up to a decent level of exercise.
Incidentally, turns out, well-optimized exercise is good enough for weight loss. Like, your body has an order it uses fuels in, right? It starts with free sugars, then moves to glycogen, and only once those are used up does it move to fat stores. So, if you exercise before breakfast, when your body's low on those first two, it makes it more likely your body will start burning fat. I mean, obviously, calories in matters. Intake too much, particularly sugars/carbs, and it'll start adding back up later. But, like, if you're maintaining a steady weight currently, adding a decent amount of aerobic exercise when you wake up (or, in general, before you first eat for the day, whenever that may be) should, in theory, be enough to cause you to start losing weight. Fun little bit of physiology for you.
Final little disclaimer: you do you. Lose weight. Don't lose weight. Whatever. I've made my decision to do so, and, frankly, I'm not gonna bother justifying that decision to random people on the internet. Your body, your choice, am I right? (Actually, there's a whole rant I could go on about how bad the whole "pro-ana" crowd are, but, frankly, I'm not concerned about them showing up. I'm more worried about the opposite crowd—you know, if you couldn't tell.)
Hobbies!
FENIX! I'm back on Arch Linux, so it should be good, right? Well, yeah. I'll need to figure out what to actually do with the system. Honestly, Floppinux is probably a pretty good place to start. Like, try to replicate that but with fenutils instead of BusyBox and the FENIX kernel instead of the Linux kernel. So, that might be a good place to start. That and maybe replacing GRUB with a custom bootloader. But bootloader development is its own can of worms, so who knows. Anyways, yeah, I don't have much excuse for not working on it this year.
Kitsune Fight! I still haven't decided whether to keep Yumi, though I'm leaning towards no. I have another character, an underground foxy boxer, who I'm thinking about replacing her with. (You know, technically, Yumi's also a foxy boxer, and given that they're both kitsune, both are foxy boxers in more ways than one. Huh. Go figure. Chat, I think I might have a type…) Maybe I get overconfident and decide to have multiple fighters! But, probably not. But, yeah. I think a nice little game about fighting in an underground foxy boxing ring sounds cool. Don't you? Or would the mountaintop sparring be better? I dunno. I remain undecided. Maybe I should work on player-side stuff next year. You know, player sprites, player code. That stuff. I have Yumi's neutral and block, which give me something to punch at. Get the easy player stuff done, and worry about what I'm gonna do with the rest later.
Drawing. I'm trying to get back into a habit of drawing more. I'm also trying to get better about using references. I've been using SFM to make up some references. The stuff of Talon I posted earlier this year, for instance, were based off references done in SFM. Speaking of, I need to draw him more. I also really need to get back to that guy on DeviantArt who told me Talon was cute and asked if I did RP. That was back in May…Maybe I still need to work on the anxiety thing…
I still have a lot of blog posts I need to put out. I still need to finish up the Michelson-Morley post. I still need to finish the Kirai post. I still need to work on the ECG post. I started working on a post about weird versions of Windows, a sort of follow-up to the Windows FLP post that I'm only just now realizing I still need to post. Yeah, I really need to get better about blogging… (Right, first goal: post the Windows FLP post.)
Stream more, take 2
Wolfie's been on something of a hiatus. Let's just pretend he's been too busy knocking dudes out or knocking dudes up to stream. (Okay, fine, he doesn't have a breeding kink, but the joke was right there.) Anyways, yeah, I still wanna stream more. I still have plenty of fun stream ideas that I wanna do.
It's kinda funny, because I've kinda fallen into a problem that another streamer I watch was talking about. She hasn't streamed in a couple of months, and she was talking about how, at this point, she's gonna need something big to come back with. It's been over a year since I stopped streaming. Surely, I should at least have a really good PNGTuber and stream assets to come back with, if not a full-on 2D model, right? I probably won't. Though, to be fair, earlier this year, I did start working on a 2D model, though I aborted my first attempt because I felt I could do it better. If I do end up picking that back up, I'll probably end up doing it with Inochi, since it's way cheaper than Live2D.
Fun and Interesting Stuffs from Last Year
I'm not sure I have quite as much for this segment as I did last year, and, unfortunately, some of it's not quite as "fun". Alas, that's just the world we're living in these days. Still, I have a bunch of games I started playing this year, as well as a whole list of streamers to add on to the people I recommended last year, among other things. Let's go, shall we?
Websites
Let's go ahead and get all the not-fun stuff out of the way. We live in a shitty world. There is a non-zero chance the US becomes a fascist dictatorship within the next four years. Our first lot of stuff is all related to this unfortunate fact.
First of all, a shoutout to TechDirt. They've always covered tech from a political angle, and the coverage they provide is more important now than ever. I have the privilege of not having to constantly keep up with the news, so I try not to for my own mental health, but they're still a regular in my feed reader.
These next three have one thing in common: keeping your data safe from a potential fascist government. First of all, it's a good idea to make sure your data isn't housed on US servers. All the big tech companies running those servers have shown themselves more than willing to kiss the would-be king's ass, and should not be trusted with any sensitive data. While I'm personally a huge advocate of local hosting and storage, that's not always feasible for everything. European Alternatives has an entire list of European-hosted alternatives for a variety of common uses for the cloud. (Incidentally, as if to hammer home the point that your data should not reside here, back in April, the EU started issuing burner devices to staff travelling to the US. Previously, they only did that to employees travelling to China. So, yeah…)
Similarly, it's a good idea to make sure your devices are as secure as possible as well. The EFF has a good guide on Surveillance Self-Defence. (They also posted a bunch of other resources late last year.) And Privacy Guides has a full listing of private tools with extra information and, in some cases, extra information on configuration. It's not perfect, but I trust you'll be able to separate the wheat from the chaff.
Anyways, let's keep the "ugh, gods" train going. AI. Gods. I had a professor try to tell us we had to use AI on an assignment, and he only walked it back to "you don't have to but it's highly encouraged." Unfortunately for him, much like Anthony Moser, I am an AI hater. I literally described it in my philosophy class as a "bias-filled misinformation machine". And if you'd like other fun epithets to use to refer to LLMs, might I suggest An "AI" by any other name?
Finally, before we get to more exciting stuff, we have Anil Dash pointing out a major problem with today's internet: we've forgotten what consent is. Frankly, the way internet users are treated is downright creepy, and, well, would be unacceptable IRL. So why do we accept it online?
Woof. Okay. Heavy stuff over. Let's get to more fun things.
You know iFixit? You probably do. They post guides on how to fix devices, they sell tools and parts, and they advocate for right to repair legislation here in the US. I figured I'd include them because I've bought quite a bit from them. I bought new batteries for my 4th gen Kindle Fire, my original model Macbook Air, and my Precision 7510 (as well as a battery for my New 3DS XL last year). I've also bought some of their tools, and, well, that Mako screwdriver set is hella good. I basically have every bit I could possibly need in there. Honestly, though, it's probably a bit overkill for most people's purposes. (Hell, it's overkill for mine!) Still, the Minnow set has a pretty good selection. And, well, if you really want overkill (or you do this for a living), there's the Manta set with its 112 bits. Take your pick! (Looking at it, I actually really wish I had the Manta set instead, but, still. Overkill.)
Last year, I referenced the epochalypse and how it was steadily getting closer. Well, we're a year closer to Y2K38, and, thankfully, there are some people out there already working to try and avert disaster. It's The Epochalypse Project! Remember, Y2K wasn't a problem because we spent the resources to actually address it. For once, we want history to repeat itself.
I mentioned taking philosophy earlier, and one of the things we covered was theism and atheism. One thing I found particularly interesting was Bertrand Russell's Why I am not a Christian. I dunno. I feel like I've spent so long looking at the New Atheist approach that this was just…refreshing.
Finally, I ended up on another SCP binge this year. SCPs are so cool. If you're only familiar with them through SCP-based horror games, you really gotta check out The SCP Wiki. Seriously, it's so much more than just scary monster stories. For your perusal, here are a few I found this year that I really enjoyed:
- Let's start off with a taste of what modern SCPs are like. SCP-9003: Manifesto of an Anomalous Terrorist. If you read any of these, make sure you read this one. It's good.
- I spent a lot of time in the comedy and black-comedy tags, so many of these are gonna fall under one or both categories. For example, SCP-1337-EX: Great Moments in History NFTs by Vikander-Kneed Technical Media.
- More comedy, this time in the form of an AI intent on taking over the world. There's just one small problem… It's SCP-4053!
- Okay, if we're gonna talk comedy on the SCP Wiki, we gotta talk about the -J's. For instance, there is the eldritch horror that is SCP-729-J. Fun fact: I actually have an instance of SCP-729-J sitting in my room right now. (Incidentally, if you feel like going on an SCP binge, SCP-729-J links to a bunch of classic SCPs. They're generally more in the "scary thing" box than what I've linked here, but they're still well worth reading.)
- SCP-5140-J. Say a prayer for poor Agent Barry. The things these people have to do as a member of the SCP Foundation…
- I said I'd give you a taste of modern SCPs with SCP-9003. Well, now get ready to truly be mind-blown by what they're doing with these things nowadays. Introducing, SCP-8005: Project Yurodivy. Set aside a good hour or so for this one. More if you're a slow reader. It's a long journey.
- Finally, the SCP Wiki isn't just SCP entries. It's also stories related to the SCP universe. For instance, the many tales of Kit. Follow along as Kit gets himself into all sorts of anomalous nonsense!
So, yeah, seriously. I highly recommend you check out the SCP Wiki. It's got all manner of good stuff.
Games
I beat 4 games this year: Surgeon Simulator: ER, Picross e8, Donut County, and Dreams of Aether. Picross e8, incidentally, took me a few years just from not playing. I remember back when I started playing the Picross e series, I would fly through those games in a week or so. Anyways, enough about what I've beaten. Let's talk about stuff I played at all.
House Flipper! I actually picked that one up late last year, but a bit too late for last year's blog post. So, here it lies. Not much to say about it. It's a fun game. Not quite as easy to get lost in designing as The Sims, but still really fun.
Surgeon Simulator: Experience Reality, the VR version of Surgeon Sim.
I'm torn on recommending this. On the one handVR controller,
it's Surgeon Sim, but it's easier because you've got the full control
of VR. On the other, this easier-to-control aspect ends up really
putting how janky the game is into full focus, and, damn, is that jank
not particularly fun to deal with. It feels okay in the normal game
because it's meant to be weird with it's intentionally janky control
scheme. Here, where everything is easy to control, the jank does not
feel good. Also, isn't part of the point of Surgeon Sim supposed to be
that it's hard to control? This honest-to-god trivializes the game once
you know what you're doing. It takes a heart transplant that normally
takes me 4 minutes to do (with minimal blood loss) and cuts it down to
a quick minute or minute-and-a-half. The eye transplant I can do in
about 40 seconds. All that said, it was fun. I certainly enjoyed
dressing up in my scrubs and pretending to be a doctor. So, hard to
say if it truly recommend it or not. Maybe pick it up on sale.
Shenzhen I/O. It's another Zachtronics masterpiece. What more need I say? Like with TIS-100, I highly recommend properly printing the manual. Trust me, you'll thank me later.
Bloons TD 6. I don't know that I can give this as hard a recommend as a microtransaction-free version of 5, but it's still really good, and, just playing through the game, I haven't really felt that it's been pushing me towards the microtransactions. They're kinda just there. But, yeah. I've been enjoying playing through it. It's fun.
Hearts of Iron IV. Bet you didn't expect to see this one here, huh? Not sure how many of the people who read this would necessarily like this game, but I've kinda enjoyed it. I spent a good few hours playing a game as Switzerland with historical AI focuses turned off. Germany quickly had a coup and went democratic, Republican Spain somehow managed to win the Spanish Civil War. Meanwhile, I ended up joining the Allies in a desperate attempt to make sure Italy wouldn't invade me (again…), got sucked into wars that shouldn't have ever happened (The UK invaded the Netherlands for seemingly no reason, and we all just put the Netherlands' original government back when we were done), started trying to make nuclear Switzerland, then got invaded by democratic Germany, which I didn't expect because they were our allies in a different war. So, now, I'm a government-in-exile… Fun! So, yeah. Playing with historical AI focuses off is absolutely hilarious and I've been having fun with it. (Oh, and not to mention that time we accidentally ended up creating two separate democratic Türkiyes because, you know, that's a thing the game lets happen for some reason.)
Donut County. I first saw this game a couple years ago when mavica played it on stream. It was on sale during Steam's black friday sale, so I decided to pick it up. It's pretty fun. I too would try to obtain the quadcopter. Good game.
Bubsy 4D?!?! Yeah. Bubsy 4D. I played the demo and I'm actually looking forward to this game. It's pretty fun! They might actually manage to make a truly good Bubsy game! What sort of world are we living in?!
LIDAR EXPLORATION PROGRAM. So, I played the demo before buying this one. Do not let the demo lure you into a false sense of security. This is a horror game. That said, damn, it's so cool. It uses the whole LIDAR scanner thing very well. One of these days, I'll be brave enough to finish it. If you're braver than I, definitely go pick it up.
N++. I loved playing the flash game N when I was younger. Even managed to beat it in co-op with a friend back when I was in high school. I've wanted N++ ever since I saw NerdCubed play it back in 2015. Well, 10 years later, I finally bought it, and it's everything I could have ever hoped for. If you're a precision platformer person, definitely go pick this up.
Downwell. I used to own this on iPhone, back when I had one of those. I picked up earlier this year on Steam since it was on sale, and it's been fun to get back into. I even managed to make it further than I did back then! Fun!
Dreams of Aether! I picked this one up in the Steam winter sale. It's by the makers of Rivals of Aether, that Smash Bros clone, and it's a WarioWare-'em-up. It's pretty fun (if a little short)! While we're here, I played the Rivals of Aether dating sim, Lovers of Aether, a few years ago, and I really enjoyed it too. If you're curious, in that one, I romanced Clairen. Fun fact: I have never played Rivals of Aether.
Entertainment
I don't have as much for you here this year. Well, not as much until we get to talking about Twitch, where I'm gonna dump a bunch of cool streamers I really like on you. First, though, let's go through some YouTube stuff.
Let's see here… Oh, yes! TED Ed videos be like... That was a good one. We've also got The Search which is a really cool animation.
We've also got some music to talk about. We've got The Delin Mix, which I found thanks to SwellTimeGPool's stream. We've got Subways of Your Mind, the so-called "Most Mysterious Song on the Internet". It's origin was found late last year, and this is the original demo cassette version! Isn't that nifty? Anyways, we've also got the What a Mario World soundtrack, especially Overworld. It's some really good SMW-style music.
We've also got some music not on YouTube. First, we have some silly nonsense by Toby Fox. Check it out, I'm house. And in more serious stuff, we have exigence by Adam Neely's band Mass Extinction Event, which I finally bought this year. I'm not sure quite how to describe it. In my review, I call it "Post-post-modern electronic jazz big band dubstep?" Whatever it is, it's good. Movement 4 is probably my favorite, but movements 1 and 2 are also really good.
Okay. Twitch time. Let's start with my 5 most watched streamers of the year.
- GammaChris! I'm honestly not surprised about my top 3. I didn't know the exact order they'd be in, but I knew Chris was gonna be up there. Like I said last year, he's a red panda boy VTuber and he's just so happy and bubbly and it's just contagious. His streams are always such a pleasure to watch.
- Eltrioch, the "big gay alien" xenoanthropologist from the planet Varyn! Also not surprised to see him here. I watched him a lot as well this year. He's very pleasant to just sit down and relax to. (He might also be getting a bit of a promotion soon…)
- RachelRetro! A new one for this year, but still not surprised to see her on here. I've watched most of her streams this year since, like, March. She's very fun to watch, very cool, very chill. She's also got a really cool stream setup! Anyways, how do I describe her? She's, like, red panda/fennec/maybe something else? Another retro streamer. I watch a lot of retro streamers, of course. And, fun fact: you know The Cutting Room Floor? She founded it!
- TristiAlacria! Now, this, I was not expecting. I can only figure I watched a lot of fae through the middle of this year. I did look forward to coming home from therapy and watching faer. Anyways, silly clown VTuber! Plays mahjong on Mondays (and is the reason Mahjong Soul was one of my most watched categories for the year) and retro stuff on other days. Very silly streams. Definitely recommended.
- HaschenSchwartz! This is not a new one. I talked about Häschen last year, just under a different name. This is the Princess who leads the Rose Rabbit Army! He made it in to my top 5 this year, and, while I wasn't expecting it, I'm also not surprised. He's a cool streamer.
Next, let's go through some of the cool people who I'd really like to tell you about:
- Depths_VT! I mentioned him last year, and I figured I'd give a little more this year, especially since I'd been watching him more. Unfortunately, I haven't been watching him as much here lately, and he's changed a lot of stuff on stream, so I'd don't really know how to describe him. But, he's a retro VTuber. (Are you really surprised?) He's been doing some analog horror type stuff with his stream theming, which is pretty nifty. If you happen to catch the start of the stream, there's a tutorial that should explain all you need to know.
- Calamariichi! Cala is a bungirl VTuber who, well, plays retro games. Unfortunately, she now streams really early in the morning my time, so I don't get to watch her as much. But, she's still really cool and well worth watching (as the people I recommend tend to be).
-
Zoiteki! Zoi is a cyber
oni who, you guessed it, plays retro games. Zoi is pretty cool and has
a pretty fun stream. If you want a taste of Zoi, why not try
this montage of
them
being toxic inplaying Mario Kart? - TheLastSeahorse! Fun fact: I'm watching them right now! Seahorse is a catperson (and sometimes Uma) VTuber and actual DJ who does actual DJing live on stream. Not just an actual DJ, but a holographic DJ! (You know those live Miku concerts? They did something like that not too long ago!) Anyways, I own some of their merch, and they're really cool, and I really enjoy watching them. Also, you can throw cheese at them. Oh, while we're here, they and their "roommate" Narra were a part of a Neo Turf Masters tournament, which was rather amusing. (If you wanna know why the quotes around "roommate", I guess you'll just have to spend time watching their stream, huh? Go throw some cheese at them!)
- NoSlamm! Noel very quickly became one of my new favorite streamers. She streams late, so I haven't necessarily been able to catch all of her streams, but what I do get to catch is always fun. Unfortunately, she hasn't streamed much here lately, which is a shame. I await her return. Anyways, back in August, she did a stream with GammaChris and holy hell was that the funniest stream I've watched all year. Like, Chris was gonna have a soju and watch her play Link to the Past. Somehow, that turned into them both drinking and playing SMB3. If you wanna know how that went, have a few clips of that disaster. It was glorious! (Oh, and that first clip doesn't show Chris getting a third tanuki suit!)
- heckmaybe! Holly has some weird streams. Did a stream where she played Bio Miracle Bokutte Upa, and had a redeem where chat could get pregnant and have babies. (Became the most pregnant chat on Twitch!) On Easter, Holly had a Christian baby TTS redeem. Fun fact: I learned about Pope Francis' death from Holly's stream. Yeah, that experience was surreal. It's just generally a strange time. Don't get me wrong, it's a strange time worth watching. But it's still a strange time.
I also have some assorted recommendations to give. Saralene (who I'm wearing merch from right now!), Nyrator, prismaeya, ProfBloomVtuber (He hosted a baseball league in a retro baseball sim game right after the World Series. That was fun to watch. Shame about the Tellies.), GigaBoots (the only non-VTubers I watch, though they're embedded deep in a circle of VTubers), masumi_tv, MisaDeluxe, mocha_mi, and Enbyeon.
Miscellany
I have just a few more things to close out the year.
First, we have The Accurate Omegaverse Quiz. It diagnosed me a loner alpha, so there's that. I also made my headmates take it. Fen's a soft alpha, Miles and Ivy are protective betas, Kai's a submissive omega, and Jade… Oh, poor Jade. She is, hilariously, a stoic omega. It took her a while to accept that one… So, yeah. Go take it. You might be surprised what you get.
We also have The Pokémon Dual-Type Personality Quiz. This is probably the most extensive Pokémon typing quiz to ever be made. If you ever wondered what you were, this will definitely tell you. If you're curious about me, I'm a fairy monotype!
